In Like a Lamb…

Happy first day of meteorological spring! Yesterdays snowfall is quickly melting away on this warmish and windless sunny day. I took a break in February to do bookwork, with only a handful of days used to pot up overwintered native pollinator plants. I was happy to get into the new greenhouse last week and start seeding with the waxing moon.

This year I’m using a new potting mix recipe, which is from the good folks at Floret Flowers. Check out the video and recipe in the link! Utilizing an already-made potting mix, this recipe only requires the addition of a few amendments. If you can, find a potting mix that doesn’t contain peat moss, as coco-coir is a more sustainable component in ready-to-use potting mix.

Unfortunately, I needed to rely on a mix with peat to begin this year's seeding, as none of the mixes with cocopeat were available when I ordered. Peat moss is highly acidic (pH 3-4.5), and you may need to leave out some of the bone meal if switching to a peatless mix. Cocopeat is closer to neutral (pH 5.5-6.5).

The final phase of electrical work is almost complete, and I’m excited to host an event in a couple of weeks. Join me in the greenhouse for some seedy fun!
