Let’s Build a Greenhouse Together!
I believe that fresh, healthy food should be accessible to everyone. Much of my work at The Garden Lab supports food and nutrition security programs through my Plant a Seed Initiative, as I’m passionate about creating community gardens, donating plants and seeds, and teaching people how to grow their food.
Since 2018, I’ve nourished Rochester’s underserved communities. In that brief time, I’ve tripled my growing area, created a community gathering space for events and food system education, and donated over 12,000 pounds of food, as well as 40% of the plants I’ve grown, to individuals, community gardens, and non-profit organizations. My efforts directly impact access to fresh food, have been self-funded, and are driven by my passion for inspiring people to grow food.
Why a Greenhouse?
With a dedicated and functioning greenhouse, I can:
Continue providing fresh food and vegetable plants to those
in need.
Extend the growing season to offer a wider variety of produce and plants.
Supply community gardens and non-profits with vegetable plants and flower donations.
Educate on the importance of pollinator diversity and provide native plants to support the environment.
Strengthen the community through shared meals
and education.
Unfortunately, my efforts to improve access to locally grown, fresh food and enhance food security by helping individuals grow their food are facing a significant challenge. After this growing season, the greenhouse I currently use at the college will be repurposed and will no longer be available for use. Without a greenhouse, my ability to grow food and provide plants will be greatly limited. It is hard to imagine reducing my efforts at a time when local food insecurity is at an all-time high.
How You Can Help
Your generous donation of time, talent, or treasure will help me purchase materials and supplies, as well as install the new greenhouse. With your help, I can continue to serve the community through plant and seed donations, as well as educational initiatives.
Donate or pledge today to support this mission.
Please share this campaign and help me continue my food security advocacy
My efforts go beyond just growing food. I have poured my heart into this work, and love building community, sharing knowledge, and celebrating the connection between people and the land.
